David, 1000 thanks for adding 'Gormenghast' to your faves. It is greatly appreciated. Take care, and welcome to dA!!
You're very welcome! I have loved this trilogy (the first two books more so than the third, but still...) and I loved the BBC miniseries. But, like most of us Gormengheeks (and I claim coining that phrase right here!), I found it sadly lacking at the same time that I was enthralled by it. More later, must get back to work, but thanks for writing!

David
Thanks for the reply, David. I agree, the third book gets a little artsy for artsy sake. I have the BBC series on DVD. It is a wonderful adaptation of the novels.

I don't know if I can agree about the enthralled/lacking thing. I'm curious as to why you feel this way about them.

Personally, I've seen these books labelled 'fantasy'- and I may have even called them that in my comments on my art work - but they really are not fantasy novels at all - at least they are not what fantasy novels have become in this day and age. These books are almost like a fantasy archetype - everything is kind of stripped down to its base fantasy elements, without all the trimmings. I found the characters very interesting and over the top, and it was them that carried me through to the strange ending (which I suppose, on some level, is about how similar Gormenghast and the real world really are).

Any way, I'd love to hear your take on it - one Gormengheek to another!!

Take care!
